Up Lauzon Appalachian MIRAGE Kahrs Bruce Homerwood Armstrong BR-111 Chelsea Plank

We have always worked with wood, and this is something that has developed into a 150-year love story. Today we are the world's oldest wood floor manufacturer that is still in business.

As the world shrinks, and the wheel turns ever faster, roots become even more important. Our strong belief in craftsmanship that has distinguished us right from the start is deeply rooted.

This means that the high quality we stand for is represented in every single piece of wood that passes through our hands.
1857 It All Starts
Johan Kahr makes a name for himself when he founds a small turning shop where he produces wooden articles for local farmers. Today the global Kahrs company is still located with it started 151 years ago in Nybro, the heart of Sweden's Smaland forests.
Wood Floors and Ecology
Our range includes many of the world's most beautiful species from the most exciting parts of the globe.

Kährs is determined to promote environmental awareness even in global terms. That is why tropical species in our range come from countries who are members of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO). All members of the organization have pledged to work towards ecological forestry.

When purchasing tropical timber we also endeavor to purchase raw materials from responsibly managed forests. Suppliers will be chosen principally from those who hold an FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certificate or are able to demonstrate that they operate environmentally aware timber procurement.

Our Products
Nature creates, we select and design

Nature is wonderfully diverse. Every tree presents us with a variety of different colors and structures, which vary depending upon how we cut the material.

Our experience has enabled us to develop a unique system for inspecting and grading the sawn wood according to its structure and appearance. This allows us to manufacture and offer floors with different looks, expressions and styles.
Calm City or Rustic Country
The character of the wood is just as important for the overall impression of the floor as the size of the strips. Natural Graining and color variation in the raw material give the floor a lively, natural and bold look. Raw material that is more evenly colored with knots and heavy graining give a calm and more uniform impression. Our long experience in sorting by appearance enables us to offer floors with a multitude of looks and styles.

City Selection
These floors are stylishly understated; they're created from a uniform and regular timber grade with small variations in tone and pattern. They can be light or dark depending on the wood species but the overall effect is uniform. If you like tranquility look for a floor in the City selections.

Town Selection
Dark or light, these floors are characterized by subtle variations in tone and pattern with an occasional knot. They form a classic backdrop which sets the focus on the rest of the decoration. If you are looking for a floor with variation, take a look at our Town selections.

Country Selection
If you are striving for a more rustic look you will probably like a floor in our Country selection. Here you will find dramatic graining and knotted wood, greater color variation and bold unmistakable naturalness.
